With the evolution of disk technology, we are adapting more and more in our datacenter. Today we have the newest type of solid-state disk on the market, NVMe! For a clear demonstration of their power and speed, we compared NVMe solid-state disks with their predecessors, Sata solid-state disks (regular SSDs).

A benchmark is a test used to compare the performance of different devices or systems. For example, benchmarking is the act of efficiently comparing the performance of devices using one or more programs.

In the tests we used AS SSD Benchmark and Disk Crystal Mark:

Benchmark AS SSD.

NVMe CrystalDiskMark test.

CrystalDiskMark SATA SSD test.

It’s remarkable that we’ve almost doubled all the values and the reading is much better on the new disks. It has also made the service much more responsive and out of danger of choking and slowdowns due to disk usage.

It is worth noting that we are in a temperature-controlled environment and all the disks tested are in RAID (ZFS-Z2), which further improves disk speeds.

With this, the overall performance gain will be noticeable from the most basic to the most advanced plan, bringing extra performance to the Operating System and connectivity.
