About ntfy
ntfy is a push notification server: a script, a cron job or a service sends a message with a plain HTTP PUT or POST to a topic, and it shows up on the phone or in the browser of whoever subscribes to that topic. It is used to report on backups, deploys, monitoring alerts and long-running tasks.
At Master da Web it arrives as ntfy 2.28 with HTTPS through Caddy and access control closed from the first request: no topic accepts publishing or subscribing without a login, and sign-up is off. The user admin, with a generated password, is created through the CLI and tested before the site is public. Browser notifications (web push) are already on.
For a script, create a token with ntfy token add and send with curl and the Authorization header. More people join with ntfy user add, with per-topic permissions in ntfy access. On iPhone, instant delivery from a self-hosted server goes through the ntfy.sh relay, which you switch on in server.yml.
