About Evolution API

Evolution API is an open-source REST API that connects WhatsApp numbers to your systems: your code sends messages over HTTP and receives every event, such as a new message or a QR code, on a webhook. With an Evolution API VPS, that WhatsApp API runs on a server of your own, protected by your key.

With it, WhatsApp plugs into chatbots and automations: sending order confirmations and reminders, answering customers with an n8n workflow or a Typebot bot, bringing conversations into Chatwoot or adding an AI assistant. Each number becomes an instance, and one server handles several, as far as the plan allows.

On your own server, messages and contacts live in your database (in Brazil, if you choose Belo Horizonte), and you decide the version, the integrations and who holds the key. With the QR code connection, the cost is the VPS, not a price per message.

On Master da Web, the VPS comes up with Evolution API 2.3 from the official image, pinned to its version, with PostgreSQL 15 storing instances, messages, contacts and chats, and Valkey as the cache, all behind HTTPS with an automatic certificate. The global API key is generated at installation (never the image's sample key) and the project's telemetry is switched off. The welcome e-mail carries the Manager address (https://<your-server>/manager), the API address and the key; a copy is kept in /root/evolution-api.txt, readable only by root.

Evolution API is not the official WhatsApp API and not a Meta product. The QR code connection uses the WhatsApp Web protocol, and WhatsApp's terms prohibit bulk and unauthorized automated messaging, at the risk of the account being suspended: how the number is used is your responsibility. For the official API, it can also connect to Meta's WhatsApp Cloud API, with your Meta account.

Its own integrations with Typebot, Chatwoot, n8n, OpenAI and Dify ship switched off and are enabled in /opt/evolution-api/.env; webhooks work without enabling anything. We pin 2.3 because from 2.4 on every installation must be activated against the Evolution Foundation licensing server, a registration the unattended install cannot do.
