How to size your project
Discourse asks for 2 GB of memory at minimum, and at that size the installer adds 2 GB of swap. Load grows with simultaneous visitors, number of topics, uploaded images and files, plugins and backups. We measured 1.83 GB in use at rest. For a community in daily use, start at 2 vCPU and 4 GB and leave disk for backups.

About Discourse
Discourse is a forum platform for communities: topics sorted into categories and tags, mentions, notifications and trust levels that unlock more permissions as a person takes part. It is used for support forums, product communities and discussion spaces for associations and teams.
At Master da Web it arrives on the 2026.9 line, installed with the project's official launcher and with HTTPS in front. The administrator (user owner, generated password) is created before the forum is reachable, so the installation-finish page, which would hand control to whoever got there first, is never left open.
What is missing is e-mail. Discourse sends sign-up confirmations, invitations and password resets, and without an SMTP server only the administrator can get in. The order e-mail carries a private link where you enter your provider's SMTP details; the provider itself is yours to supply.

Configure for your business
The installation compiles Discourse and takes 10 to 20 minutes. After that you receive the address, the user owner, the password and the private SMTP link. Sign in, enter your SMTP details, go through the wizard at /wizard and send a test e-mail. The SMTP provider, your own domain and copying backups off the server are yours.
