About BookStack

BookStack is a documentation wiki laid out like a bookcase: shelves hold books, and each book has chapters and pages. Teams use it for manuals, internal procedures and knowledge bases, writing in a visual editor or in Markdown, with search and permissions by role.

Here it arrives as version 26.09, with MariaDB 11.4 and HTTPS. The interface starts in Brazilian Portuguese, and each person can change that in their preferences. BookStack's default account (admin@admin.com, password “password”) is replaced before the site is public: the login is your account's e-mail and the 32-character password, generated by BookStack itself, comes in the order e-mail. Public sign-up and guest access stay off.

To start, create the first book (Books > Create New Book) and invite the team under Settings > Users. Invitations and password resets depend on e-mail, which you set up in the MAIL_ lines of the .env file. Backups and version upgrades are up to you.

  • Automatic backups

Scheduled copies of the whole server, kept off the host. Restore the complete BookStack whenever you need to.

  • Managed firewall

Rules by port and source, applied from the panel, no iptables editing. Open only what BookStack needs.

  • Security Center

Continuous external scanning of your server, with findings prioritised and the fix spelled out for each one.

  • Private network (VPC)

Connect BookStack to databases and other servers over an isolated network with nothing exposed to the internet. With a VPN Gateway for remote access.
