Pick the right plan for Moodle

Every plan includes public IPv4 and IPv6, NVMe storage and a 1 Gbps uplink. Click one to reach the checkout with everything filled in.

How to size your project

Moodle weighs by how many students are connected at once, especially on exam or quiz days, and by the size of the course files. Memory and CPU follow simultaneous visits; disk follows videos, PDFs and assignment submissions. Start with the recommended plan, leave room on disk to grow and back up the database and /var/lib/moodledata.

About Moodle

Moodle is the open source distance learning (e-learning) platform used by schools, universities and companies to run online courses. With it you build courses with lessons, files and videos, set activities and quizzes, follow your students' progress and record their grades, all from the browser. With a Moodle VPS, your e-learning platform runs on a server of your own, already installed.

Moodle serves schools and course providers teaching online, universities with distance-learning subjects, companies training their teams and teachers who build their own courses. It has assignments with grading and feedback, quizzes with a question bank, forums, interactive H5P content, badges, activity and course completion, groups and participation reports, plus several ways to enrol students.

Moodle is free software (GPL licence) and charges nothing per student: on a VPS, the limit is the size of the server, which grows with your school. You choose the theme, the plugins and the access rules, and if you choose Belo Horizonte your students' data stays in Brazil.

At Master da Web you get Moodle 5.2, from the official release package checked against its checksum, with nginx, PHP 8.4 and MariaDB, behind HTTPS with an automatic certificate, in Brazilian Portuguese and in the São Paulo time zone. Moodle's web installer is never open on the internet: the database is installed from the command line and the administrator is created before the site goes public. The login is admin and the password is generated; both arrive in the welcome e-mail and are also kept in /root/moodle.txt. Moodle's cron runs every minute, and the server accepts files of up to 256 MB per upload.

What stays with you: setting up an outgoing mail server (SMTP), without which Moodle sends no e-mail such as password resets and notices; pointing your own domain at the server, if you like, by editing the Caddyfile and the site address in config.php as /root/moodle.txt explains; and creating categories, courses and users. Plugins and themes are installed over SSH, because Moodle's code is read-only to PHP, an extra layer of protection against intrusions.
