About SQL Server 2025
SQL Server is Microsoft's relational database, used by business management systems, ERPs, .NET applications and reporting tools. With a SQL Server 2025 VPS you get a cloud database server of your own, ready to take connections from your applications on port 1433, without keeping a server in the office.
This installation runs on Linux (Ubuntu 24.04), which Microsoft officially supports for SQL Server 2025. The engine and the T-SQL are the same as SQL Server on Windows, and your applications, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and your other tools on Windows connect on port 1433 as usual.
On a VPS the database is yours: you decide who can connect, when to apply Microsoft's cumulative updates and how to take backups, and if you choose Belo Horizonte your data stays in Brazil. With the free Express edition, the only cost is the server.
At Master da Web, SQL Server 2025 is installed from Microsoft's own repositories, pinned to a tested cumulative update, together with sqlcmd and bcp. With the order you choose the edition: Express (free, production use included, with up to 4 cores, 1.4 GB of memory for data and 50 GB per database), Developer (free, for development and testing only), Evaluation (180 days) or your own Standard or Enterprise key, which can also be entered later. You also pick the collation and, if you like, the IP addresses allowed to reach port 1433. The sa password is generated at installation and arrives in the welcome e-mail with a ready-to-paste connection string; everything is also kept in /root/sql-server-2025.txt.
With the order you accept Microsoft's licence terms. Express and Developer send usage data to Microsoft, which cannot be turned off on the free editions, and Microsoft's terms for Express offered by hosting providers exclude high-risk use, which includes e-commerce transactions such as online sales and payments. Some features exist only in SQL Server on Windows, such as Reporting Services, Analysis Services and FILESTREAM: if your application depends on one of them, check with its vendor before ordering.
